DTI to Launch More Trade Fairs in 2026 to Boost MSME Growth

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is gearing up for a major expansion of its national trade fair program in 2026 as part of its push to accelerate the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Instead of the usual two to four national events per year, DTI is targeting at least 13 large‑scale trade fairs to give local entrepreneurs greater exposure and market access.

Speaking at the Mindanao leg of the Usapang Budget Natin forum on February 10 in Koronadal City, DTI Assistant Secretary Kristian Ablan said the expanded lineup could benefit around 2,000 MSMEs nationwide. He added that these fairs have the potential to generate up to ₱700 million in sales and business opportunities.

“Ang mission namin sa Department of Trade and Industry ay maka‑graduate kayo sa partikular ninyong tier,” Ablan said, reaffirming DTI’s commitment to help MSMEs progress—from micro to small, small to medium, and medium to large enterprises.

DTI officially kicked off its 2026 trade fair series with the National Trade Fair at SM Megamall held from February 18 to 22.

The agency also lined up a full-year calendar of events, including:

National Food Fair (March)

National Arts and Crafts Fair (April)

Home Décor and Furniture Fair (May)

Cosmobeauté Beauty Trade Show (June)

Wedding Fair (June)

National Trade Fair (July)

Coconut Philippines Trade Fair (August)

Malikhaing Pinoy Creative Expo (September)

Arts and Crafts Fair (October)

National Food Fair (November)

Christmas Village Fair (December)

DTI is also preparing for its participation in Cosmoprof Asia in Hong Kong this November.

Asec. Ablan encouraged MSMEs interested in joining national trade fairs to first participate in regional fairs organized by DTI field offices to build experience and readiness.

Via PIA | Industry Daily Observer

From Bhutan to Western Australia’s 40Under40: The Inspiring Rise of Education Leader Tandin Dorji

Perth, Western Australia — In a story that embodies resilience, global citizenship, and transformative leadership in international education, Tandin Dorji, Founder and Director of EducationPro Group Pty Ltd and CEO of Kingston College, Perth, has been nominated for the prestigious 40Under40 Award in Western Australia. His journey, from a childhood in rural Bhutan to becoming one of Australia’s most influential multicultural education leaders, has captivated industry observers and community advocates alike.

This year’s nomination places Dorji among the region’s most innovative young leaders, positioning him as a standout figure shaping the future of Western Australia’s international education landscape.

A Story Made for Magazines: A Leader Forged Through Adversity

Dorji’s rise is the kind of narrative that editorial platforms seek—an immigrant success story with emotional depth, purpose, and measurable impact.

Raised in a remote Bhutanese village without electricity or basic amenities, he learned early the value of discipline and perseverance. When he arrived in Western Australia in 2013 as an international student, he carried little more than ambition, but over the next decade, he would build a multinational education group with nearly 100 employees across operations in Australia, Bhutan, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, the UK, and New York.

Today, Dorji is credited with helping more than 10,000 international students transition to Western Australia, making him a key contributor to one of the state’s most vital economic and cultural sectors.

The Moment That Defined His Career

The hallmark of Dorji’s leadership is not rapid success; it is his ability to persevere when conditions change abruptly.

During years marked by shifting visa regulations, economic volatility, and sector uncertainty, Dorji guided his teams through uncharted territory. He made one of his boldest decisions during a market contraction: acquiring and rebuilding Kingston International College, stabilizing its operations and repositioning it for the future.

It is this willingness to lead decisively in crisis—not just in times of growth—that elevated him to the 40Under40 spotlight.

Why Tandin Dorji Matters in Western Australia’s Education Sector

For digital audiences searching for rising leaders, industry innovators, or influencers shaping multicultural Australia, Dorji stands out for several key reasons:

• Founder & Director of a multinational education group
• CEO of a major Perth-based college
• 10 global and national industry awards
• Impact on 10,000+ students worldwide
• Model of resilience for immigrant and first-generation leaders

These attributes not only strengthen his 40Under40 candidacy but also position him as a compelling thought leader in international education, migration pathways, and cross-cultural leadership.

A Bio Built for Awards, Websites, and Speaking Stages

Tandin Dorji is the Founder and Director of EducationPro Group Pty Ltd and the CEO of Kingston College, Perth, overseeing a global education and migration services network spanning seven countries.
Earning More, Yet One Crisis Away: Why Financial Preparedness Still Matters for Filipino Professionals

Many Filipino professionals in their 30s and 40s are earning more than before. Careers are more stable, extra income comes from side hustles, and finances may look okay on paper. But in real life, many still feel unsure.

A medical emergency, a sudden loss of income, or an unexpected bill can quickly disrupt everything. Earning more does not always mean feeling secure. Often, the real difference comes from being prepared.

Income May Be Higher, but Savings Are Still Limited

Data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) shows that only about 37% of Filipino adults have savings. Even among those who save, many do not yet have enough to handle major emergencies.

The BSP suggests saving three to six months’ worth of expenses, but building this takes time. For many households, savings are still a work in progress, which means financial stress can remain even when income grows.

Healthcare Costs Often Hit First

Healthcare is one of the biggest unexpected expenses for many families. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), around 44% of healthcare costs in the Philippines are paid out of pocket. Even with insurance, many medical bills must be paid immediately.

For working adults supporting both children and aging parents, a hospital visit, tests, and medicines can quickly use up limited savings.

Awareness Is Improving, but Preparedness Takes Time

More people today understand the importance of emergency savings. Many have started saving—but often, the amount is only enough for a short period.

This means awareness is growing, but real financial preparedness is still being built step by step through consistent saving and better planning.

Managing Financial Gaps When Life Happens

Sometimes, unexpected expenses come before savings are fully ready. In these moments, some people use short-term financial tools to manage temporary cash needs, as long as they clearly understand the costs and repayment terms.

Regulated online lending platforms like MocaMoca, operated by Copperstone Lending Inc. (SEC Registration No. 2021050012959-04), may be used by some as a temporary support option, alongside savings, budgeting, and insurance.

Rethinking What Financial Security Means

For many Filipinos in their 30s and 40s, financial security is no longer just about earning more. It is about being ready for uncertainty. Rising living costs, family responsibilities, and slow but steady savings all shape this journey. Real preparedness often grows over time through simple, consistent habits and informed decisions.

Being prepared does not have to be complicated. Small steps today can help create greater peace of mind tomorrow.

Ashton Kutcher’s Second Act: How a Hollywood Star Quietly Became One of Tech’s Smartest Investors | Explore Ashton Kutcher’s entrepreneurial journey—from Hollywood star to tech investor. Learn business lessons, startups, quotes, and mindset tips for entrepreneurs.

Most people know Ashton Kutcher as a sitcom icon, a movie star, or a familiar face in celebrity headlines. What far fewer people realize is that, behind the scenes, Kutcher has built a reputation in Silicon Valley as a disciplined investor, long-term thinker, and serious entrepreneur.

Long before “celebrity investing” became trendy, Kutcher was sitting in startup demos, asking uncomfortable questions, and learning how technology reshapes human behavior. While the public saw fame, he saw leverage. While others chased the spotlight, he studied systems, timing, and scale.

Today, Kutcher is not just an actor with side projects. He is a co-founder of a respected venture firm, an early backer of some of the most influential tech companies of the last decade, and a case study in how skills from entertainment can translate into business success.

This article looks at Ashton Kutcher’s entrepreneurial evolution, the businesses and investments that define his second act, the lessons show business taught him about growth, and the mindset entrepreneurs can apply—whether they’re building startups, careers, or personal brands.

Growing Up Far From Fame: Hustle Before Hollywood

Ashton Kutcher was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1978—about as far removed from Hollywood as possible. He studied biochemical engineering at the University of Iowa and worked multiple jobs to support himself through school.

Before success, there was instability. Before recognition, there was rejection. Kutcher eventually dropped out of college to pursue modeling and acting, stepping into uncertainty with no guarantees.

That early experience shaped a core belief he still carries:

Where you start matters far less than how you adapt.

For entrepreneurs, this phase of his life reinforces a timeless truth: resourcefulness beats credentials, and resilience often matters more than raw talent.

Breaking Into Show Business—and Treating It Like a Business

Kutcher’s breakout role on That ’70s Show turned him into a household name. Film roles followed—Dude, Where’s My Car?, The Butterfly Effect, No Strings Attached—along with mainstream fame that many would simply ride.

But Kutcher approached acting differently. Instead of seeing it as pure art or celebrity, he treated show business as an ecosystem.

He paid attention to:

How audiences form loyalty

How brands are built over time

Why relevance fades when strategy is missing

Later, his portrayal of Steve Jobs revealed how deeply he studied innovators—not just characters.

What show business taught him:

Timing can be more important than talent

Attention is a scarce resource

Distribution often matters as much as product quality

These lessons became foundational when he stepped into technology and startups.

The Shift to Tech: Curiosity Before Capital

Kutcher’s interest in technology began quietly in the mid-2000s. At a time when most celebrities were endorsing products, he was learning how products were built.

He attended startup demos. He listened to founders. He asked practical questions:

Does this solve a real problem?

Can this scale globally?

Will people still care in ten years?

Instead of relying on fame to open doors, he used curiosity to stay in the room.

That mindset led him to early investments that would later reshape industries.

Ashton Kutcher’s Businesses and Startup Investments

A-Grade Investments and Sound Ventures

In 2010, Kutcher co-founded A-Grade Investments, an early-stage venture capital firm that quickly earned respect in Silicon Valley—not because of celebrity, but because of results.

The firm invested early in companies such as:

Uber

Airbnb

Spotify

Skype

Pinterest

SoundCloud

These were not impulse bets. Kutcher evaluated:

Founder integrity

Network effects

Product-market fit

Cultural staying power

He later co-founded Sound Ventures, continuing the same disciplined, long-horizon approach.

His Investment Philosophy: Think Like a Builder

Kutcher has been clear that he doesn’t invest like a celebrity—he invests like someone imagining the work of building the company himself.

“If I can’t understand it well enough to explain it simply, I won’t invest.”

Entrepreneur takeaway:

If your business can’t be explained clearly, it probably isn’t clear internally either. Clarity is a competitive advantage.

Core Lessons Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Ashton Kutcher

1. Attention Is a Tool, Not the Prize

Kutcher understood early that visibility creates leverage—but only if used intentionally.

He used attention to:

Access smarter networks

Learn faster

Create asymmetric opportunities

Lesson: Build assets that compound—skills, trust, and relationships outlast hype.

2. Learning Speed Beats Raw Intelligence

Kutcher often puts himself in rooms where he knows less than everyone else.

“I try to be the dumbest person in the room.”

Lesson: Ego slows growth. Curiosity accelerates it.

3. Long-Term Thinking Wins Quietly

Many of Kutcher’s investments took years to mature. He avoided chasing fast wins in favor of durable value.

Lesson: Sustainable businesses are built in decades, not quarters.

4. Failure Is Information

From failed projects to missed opportunities, Kutcher treats setbacks as data points.

“Failure isn’t a verdict—it’s feedback.”

Lesson: Detach identity from outcomes. Iterate faster.

Celebrity Life vs Entrepreneur Life

Kutcher has said entrepreneurship is, in many ways, harder than acting.

Acting rewards:

Performance

Timing

Public validation

Entrepreneurship demands:

Less Red Tape, Faster Aid: DMW Caps 2025 with Expanded OFW Protection | DMW caps 2025 with record-breaking OFW protection programs, digital travel passes, expanded healthcare, and aggressive anti-illegal recruitment measures.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) ended 2025 on a high note, marking a year of unprecedented initiatives to protect and assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Combining digital innovation, crisis response, and tough enforcement measures, the agency delivered on its promise of faster, more efficient services.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized that the department’s efforts were anchored on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive: “red carpet, not red tape.”

Digital Transformation: Goodbye OEC, Hello e-Travel

One of the biggest milestones was the shift to digital documentation. The DMW processed 514,966 e-Travel and OFW Pass transactions, reducing reliance on the decades-old Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).

“The system allows workers to travel faster while ensuring proper documentation and compliance,” Cacdac said, adding that airlines are expected to fully recognize digital travel documents by 2026.

Labor Diplomacy at Its Peak

Following the President’s call to strengthen bilateral labor relations, the DMW sealed 10 new bilateral labor agreements in 2025, raising the total to 72 agreements—the highest for any labor-sending country.

“These agreements are the backbone of our labor diplomacy,” Cacdac stressed. “They translate into concrete protections, access to justice, and safer working conditions for Filipinos abroad.”

Expanded Physical Support for OFWs

DMW’s physical infrastructure also grew significantly:

OFW lounges at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 served 856,551 workers.

Seafarers’ hubs assisted 184,844 seafarers.

Migrants’ Brews welcomed 179,450 OFWs across 23 locations nationwide.

Healthcare access improved as the OFW Hospital in Pampanga upgraded from Level 1 to Level 2, adding an ICU and MRI facilities. It served 115,000 beneficiaries and performed 237,000 procedures and diagnostic tests.

“This shows our commitment to safeguarding the health and welfare of our workers abroad and their families,” Cacdac said.

Aksyon Fund: Faster Crisis Response

The Aksyon Fund achieved 98% utilization, providing financial, medical, legal, and repatriation assistance to 160,769 OFWs and families.

“Aksyon Fund was a lot better in terms of utilization for 2025. We were at 49 percent in 2023, 59 percent in 2024, and now 98 percent,” Cacdac explained. “Our goal is 100 percent utilization next year. Every worker in need should get help immediately.”

The fund supported OFWs affected by global crises, including:

Conflicts in Hamas-Israel, Israel-Iran, and Sudan

Earthquakes in Turkiye, Taiwan, Myanmar, and Thailand

UAE flooding

Mass layoffs in New Zealand

Illegal recruitment victims in Myanmar scam hubs

Fire victims in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district

Crackdown on Illegal Recruitment

Law enforcement hit record highs:

32 illegal recruitment establishments closed (up from 15 in 2024)

6 convictions secured

25 individuals linked to scam hubs arrested or prosecuted

“This is a record-breaking year for enforcement. Illegal recruiters and traffickers will face justice,” Cacdac said.

DMW lawyers also handled high-profile overseas cases, including:

Commutation of two death sentences in Saudi Arabia

Monitoring cases in Jordan and Kuwait

Civil claims for families of slain OFWs like Mary Grace Santos and Jullebee Ranara

Stronger Protection for Domestic Workers

New safeguards include:

Minimum monthly salary increase from USD400 to USD500

“Know-your-employer” video interview system launching in 2026

“Kamusta Kabayan” program for real-time welfare monitoring

“Hindi nag-iisa ang OFW (Our OFWs are not alone). Our mandate is to ensure every worker abroad is protected, supported, and treated with dignity,” Cacdac said.

Full-Cycle Reintegration

As of October 2025, 52,745 OFWs benefited from reintegration programs:

Kabuhayan, Kaalaman, Kalinga, Kaagapay: 28,349 beneficiaries

Balik Pinay, Balik Hanapbuhay: 5,046 beneficiaries

Livelihood Development Assistance: 1,512 beneficiaries

Aksyon Fund: 9,383 beneficiaries

Financial Awareness & Small Business Training: 7,799 beneficiaries

SPIMS Program: 656 former teachers placed in plantilla positions

Bottom Line

From digital travel passes to expanded healthcare and aggressive anti-illegal recruitment campaigns, the DMW’s 2025 performance reflects a clear mandate: less red tape, faster aid, and stronger protection for every Filipino worker abroad.
Negosentro Media | The Jobs Shaping 2026: LinkedIn News Reveals the 25 Fastest‑Growing Roles in the U.S.

Originally reported by LinkedIn News | As the world of work continues to evolve at breakneck speed, one reality is clear: the future of jobs is being rewritten in real time. Artificial intelligence, shifting business models, and economic uncertainty are transforming not just how people work—but which skills matter most.

According to new insights from LinkedIn News, more than 56% of professionals plan to look for a new job in 2026, yet three in four say they feel unprepared for what the market demands. Amid this uncertainty, understanding where opportunity is growing has never been more critical.

To help professionals navigate these changes, LinkedIn released its annual “Jobs on the Rise 2026” list—highlighting the 25 fastest‑growing roles in the United States based on real hiring and career‑transition data from the past three years.

AI and Strategy Roles Dominate the 2026 Job Market

One of the strongest themes in LinkedIn’s 2026 ranking is the continued acceleration of artificial intelligence–driven careers. Technical and strategic roles connected to AI appear repeatedly at the top of the list, reflecting how deeply AI is now embedded across industries.

#1 AI Engineers / Machine Learning Engineers

These professionals design and deploy advanced models that power automation, predictions, and decision‑making systems. Demand is strongest in tech, IT consulting, and professional services, with hiring concentrated in San Francisco, New York City, and Dallas.

#2 AI Consultants & Strategists

As companies race to integrate AI, advisors who can translate technology into business impact are becoming indispensable. These roles typically require substantial prior experience and blend leadership, data expertise, and operational strategy.

#5 AI and Machine Learning Researchers

Focused on advancing algorithms and model performance, these researchers continue to fuel innovation in industries ranging from technology to higher education.

Content, Data, and Operational Roles Power AI Growth

Behind every AI system is human expertise ensuring accuracy, context, and usability. That’s why support roles tied to data quality and interpretation are also growing rapidly.

#4 Data Annotators / Content Analysts

Often working on a project basis, these professionals label and review data used to train AI systems. With strong demand in tech, staffing, and higher education, this role reflects how AI continues to create new forms of work rather than replace workers entirely.

The Rise of Founders, Consultants, and Independent Work

Another standout trend from LinkedIn News is the sustained growth of self‑employment and advisory roles, signaling a long‑term shift toward flexible and independent career paths.

#7 Strategic Advisors & Independent Consultants

From executive advisory to go‑to‑market strategy, experienced professionals are increasingly offering expertise outside traditional employment structures.

#9 Founders

Founder‑titled roles have grown sharply year over year, as professionals respond to uncertainty by building businesses, startups, and venture‑backed solutions.

These roles highlight evolving definitions of “career stability” in 2026, where adaptability and ownership are key.

Healthcare, Infrastructure, and Finance Remain in High Demand

Not all of the fastest‑growing roles are digital. Several traditional but essential professions continue to see strong momentum:

• Healthcare Reimbursement Specialists (#6) support billing and compliance amid rising healthcare complexity.

• Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (#19) reflect increasing demand for mental health services.

• Data Center Technicians (#17) and Commissioning Managers (#11) underscore the infrastructure required to support digital transformation.

• Financial Planners and Advisors (#21) remain in demand as individuals seek guidance in volatile economic conditions.

Flexible Work Continues to Shape Talent Decisions

Across many of the 25 roles, LinkedIn’s analysis shows that remote and hybrid work options remain a significant factor in job availability—particularly in consulting, healthcare, content, and advisory positions.

Flexible work is no longer a perk; it is a structural feature of the modern labor market.

How LinkedIn Built the Jobs on the Rise List

According to LinkedIn News, the 2026 rankings were developed using LinkedIn Economic Graph data, analyzing millions of job transitions from January 2023 through July 2025.

To qualify, roles had to:

• Show consistent positive growth

• Reach a meaningful size by 2025

• Demonstrate broad‑based hiring demand

Internships, volunteer roles, and highly concentrated company hiring were excluded to ensure relevance. The analysis was conducted by LinkedIn data scientists in partnership with the LinkedIn News editorial team.

What This Means for Professionals in 2026

The takeaway from LinkedIn’s latest report is clear: the fastest‑growing jobs reward adaptability, digital fluency, and strategic thinking. Whether through AI, healthcare, infrastructure, or independent consulting, opportunities exist for those willing to build relevant skills and stay informed.

LinkedIn encourages professionals to explore open roles, assess required skills, and invest in continuous learning—especially as many LinkedIn Learning courses remain available to members for a limited time.

Summary

The 2026 job market is defined by AI momentum, flexible careers, and evolving definitions of success. Trusting data‑driven insights—like LinkedIn News’ Jobs on the Rise—can help professionals make confident, forward‑looking career decisions.

Source: LinkedIn News

PHILIPPINES Fastly, Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLY), a leading global edge cloud platform, today announced the recent appointment of Rachel Ler as Area Vice President of Asia, where she oversees Fastly’s business across ASEAN countries, the Greater China region, and South Korea. In this role, Ler’s focus is on driving growth, deepening customer and partner relationships, and advancing Fastly’s strategic expansion across some of the company’s most diverse and fast-growing markets.

Rachel Ler brings over 20 years of experience in enterprise technology and regional leadership across Asia Pacific. She has held senior roles at Commvault and Versa Networks, where she drove sustainable growth through customer-focused strategies, solution innovation, and strong partner ecosystems. Having led teams across diverse APAC markets, Rachel has a proven track record of building scalable go-to-market engines and delivering consistent growth for global technology organisations.

“The Asia region is one of the most diverse and dynamic markets in the world, spanning ASEAN countries, South Korea, and the Greater China region,” said Nicola Gerber, Vice President for Asia Pacific and Japan at Fastly. “Having Rachel onboard – with her expansive experience and deep understanding of customers across these markets – reinforces Fastly’s commitment to deliver the Fastly experience even closer to our customers. Market localisation and serving customers with true regional proximity are critical pillars of our APJ expansion strategy. With Rachel’s extensive insight into the customer and partner landscape, along with her proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity for her to drive progress for the region.”

Ler’s appointment underscores Fastly’s continued investment in building strong regional leadership to better serve customers through localised expertise, regional proximity, and high-performance digital infrastructure. Ler joins Gerber and the global leadership team to lead the company’s broader strategy around edge cloud innovation, AI-ready infrastructure, and international expansion. This includes helping customers across Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and the Greater China region to modernise their digital platforms, enhance application security, and deliver low-latency experiences closer to end users.

“What excites me most about joining Fastly is its authenticity and its passion for building a faster, safer and more engaging internet. That spirit of acting with passion is something I connect with deeply. Across ASEAN, Greater China, and South Korea, digital expectations are rising fast, and customers need a partner who cares as much as they do about delivering meaningful, secure and high-performance online experiences. I’m energised by the opportunity to bring Fastly’s engineering strength and customer-focused mindset to this dynamic region and to make a real impact together,” said Ler.
